Isn't it almost time for vacation again?

Sorry to be gone awhile, The end of June was just not a whole lot of fun around here. Josh's bug lasted a few days and then he kindly gave it to me. I'm not sure how bad he really felt but my version was some kind of flu/cold combo that lasted almost a week. Then my mother had to have her gallbladder out and is still at home recovering. And for fun, Josh got a trip to the doc yesterday because all the fun congestion from his crud last week gave him an ear infection. I think we're all on the road to recovery now though. I'm still waiting for poor Erich to come down with something. He has somehow managed to come through all of this unscathed. Hoping it stays that way, I don't wish that on anyone.

Anyway, there has been a little stitching going on but with the WIPocalypse check in so close I think I'll make you wait and share the vacation pics I've been promising instead.

Just in case you don't remember, about a month ago we took a little family vacation to Dearborn, MI and visited the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. I'm happy to report that they seem to have expanded since my last visit in high school and I think Erich was pleasantly surprised by the variety of things to do too. In a nutshell, the museum is basically a random collection of exhibits in addition to the automotive history collection. There's planes, trains, farm equipment, dollhouses, some Abraham Lincoln items, a civil rights exhibit and a few more I'm sure I'm forgetting. Good museum for kids though I think Josh will have a better time in a few years so definitely worth another visit later.

Same goes for the village- fun now, better later. The village is a collection of historical buildings and homes you can walk through along with a craftworks where we saw metalworking, glassblowing and such. There was also a carousel which Josh and I rode and we all rode in a real Model T which was probably the best part for the boys. As far as the buildings go we saw some that belonged to the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, Heinz (as in ketchup), Noah Webster, and Robert Frost.

We also took a walk through the Detroit Zoo before we left and I won't bore you with a bunch of animal pics but I do have to share the "dead" kangaroos. We walked up to their enclosure and every single one of them looked like this...



After a quick whispered debate on their state of being a few of the kangaroos adjusted themselves and we determined them to be fine, just napping. I've never seen anything quite like that. Our local zoo has kangaroos too and they are occasionally seen resting in the grass but never this many in quite that position:)And finally, a few souvenirs of our trip...



On the ends we have the always popular Mold-o-rama Oscar Mayer Weinermobile and Rosa Parks bus from the museum. In the center are a jar of pickled garlic and a gorgeous hand blown glass pumpkin from the village. All in all, a good trip that will need to be repeated in a few years.
